Different Types of Minds

I. The UNREGENERATE MIND is:
     A. Vain, darkened (Rom. 1:21)
     B. Reprobate (Rom. 1:28)
     C. Under Satan's Control (Eph. 2:1-3)
     D. An enemy to God (Eph. 2:3)

II. The MIND OF THE BELIEVER (two kinds)

     A. CARNAL
(I Cor. 3:3)  "For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?"  Carnal:  [4559. Sarkikos, sar-kee-kos'; from G4561; pertaining to flesh, i.e. (by extens.) bodily, temporal, or (by impl.) animal, unregenerate:--carnal, fleshly].

The carnal mind is an unrenewed mind, not subject to exchanged life truths.

     B. SPIRITUAL (a sanctified and spiritual mind)
(I Cor. 2:15)  "But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man."  spiritual: [4152. Pneumatikos, pnyoo-mat-ik-os': from G4151; non-carnal, i.e. (humanly) ethereal (as opposed to gross), or (demonically) a spirit (concr.) or divinely) supernatural, regenerate, religious:--spiritual. Comp. G5591].

Overcoming Mental Oppression

1. Meditate upon Scriptures on COUNTING: The word count means to reckon something to be so.  It is a financial term that means to evaluate.  Paul used it several times in Phil. 3.  James says, count it all joy.  He is telling us to know God is in control! Believer, God knows what happens in your life.

2. Meditate upon Scriptures that let you KNOW:  Knowing this that the testing of our faith brings maturity. (Jm 1:3)  Know that your trials are not to be wasted.  Maximize every trial to the fullest.

3. Meditate upon Scriptures on LETTING: Let patience have her perfect work.  Peter said, the trial of our faith is more precious than gold that perishes though it be tried with fire.  Let this mind be in you, Paul says in Phil. 2:5.

4. Mediate upon Scriptures on ASKING:  James says if you lack the wisdom to cope with your tribulations use the prayer of faith, nothing wavering, and receive wisdom from above and act upon it.  God gives wisdom in hard times.

Decision Making

PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Since 1985 I have been on a campaign to encourage God's people to transform their minds and not trust in the flesh.  Now let's look at some very simple practical ways to make this lesson applicable.

1. Detect Your Specific Area of Need Find portions of scriptures that apply to your current area of need.  Since we are talking about decision-making, look up scriptures that deal with the will of God.  Mark the scriptures in your Bible and create a chain reference.

2. Put Key Scriptures on 3x5 Cards Carry them around with you and put them on your bed stand.  Practice last thought, God's thought.

3. Begin the transforming process by engrafting through meditation the promises given and the conditions to be met.

4. Expect God to illuminate your mind to a deeper understanding in the passing of time.

5. At the Point of Temptation in the day, resist the devil with the Word you have just put in your heart.  Walk in the light of the truth you have hid in your heart and when you need to make decisions God's Word will be a lamp unto your path.

6. In Your Prayer Time rehearse to God what you have learned.

7. Share with others the truths God has given you.
