Building Projects
GRM has current church building projects in various regions of India, Africa, and many projects for the remote tribal areas where primitive tribes are being reached. We are praying for funding for church reconstruction in several persecuted villages in India where churches and homes have been destroyed. In Africa we are constructing churches in several important areas. These are key projects in our attempt to bring the light of the Gospel to the last of the lost.
Our missionaries are working in the remote places of the world, where the people have never heard the Gospel before. This region is one of the LEAST EVANGELIZED places in the world- known as the 10/40 window. There is much opposition to the Gospel by anti-Christian groups. In spite of the constant opposition, many are coming to Christ as native missionaries diligently take the Gospel to these areas.
Low Cost Churches:
The number of believers is constantly increasing. Most of the members of our congregation are first generation Christians; newly converted many backgrounds. We have many congregations of 30 to 60 new believers who regularly meet every Sunday in the open to worship. It is absolutely essential for these new believers to have a place of worship on their own instead of having to gather under trees or in someone's courtyard or patio. We place a lot of importance on providing a cost effective structure to enable believers to worship freely, receive medical treatment, and use for educational and vocational training. We have already identified ten congregations in India alone that require a church to be built for them.
Since most new believers are from non Christian backgrounds, they face stiff opposition from family and friends. Most of them are ostracized from their society and many are threatened even with death for accepting a “foreign religion-Christianity” and forsaking their ancestor’s religion. Some fringe elements even consider it an honor to kill any one who has forsaken his/her family tradition. So we have many secret believers who are afraid to be seen with a crowd of worshipers in the open. In spite of all this, we have many who come out boldly and witness for Christ who has redeemed them from sin, sickness, and demonic oppression and many have been touched by our mobile medical camps. When a congregation has a church of its own, it gives them a great sense of belonging and protection. It causes the community to come together and work in unity for the Kingdom of God.
Our plan is to build a cost effective structure which can seat up to 100 people when they are seated on the floor. We always use locally available materials like wood from the forest, palm leaves, hand made bricks, sand, and local labor to bring down costs dramatically. Employing local labor also helps those who worked on the project and their families to be friendly towards our missionaries and they will be the first ones to stand up against any arson or attack that is being planned by resisting groups. Past experiences show us that those who get involved in church building projects ultimately get saved. The only commodity that is brought from outside this region is cement. When believers worship within the confines of a church, it eases the tension between the local Hindu or Muslim leaders and believers. During the monsoon season it is impossible to conduct church in the open, so a structure is a must.
Our already existing “low cost churches” are being used as educational centers during the week days. Missionaries are also involved in teaching the tribal children to read, write, and do basic math. We also use the facility to conduct adult literacy classes and vocational training. Our mobile medical units always use the local church as the focal point for all follow up work. So a physical structure is of great value as a mission depot station to begin with and a church in the future for any missionary organization.
